Who said that the beaches of the South were “The place to be” for summer? Not everyone agrees.
The common snipe adventures continue, ever further north!
The flight from Saint-Vio (Finistère) to Stafafell (Iceland) via Exeter, Liverpool and the Isle of Skye (UK) arrived at 6.23pm on 26 March. The alluvial beach at Fjörur must have made for a smooth landing. While the Channel crossing took less than an hour, the journey from the north of Scotland to Iceland took 21 hours. The migration always takes place at night (except when it is not possible to land in the middle of the North Atlantic). Altitude data must be processed and analysed to determine how high the bird crossed land and sea.
The pre-breeding migration of birds equipped with GPS for the MIGRATLANE programme is therefore continuing, with the gradual return of the African winterers and the departure of the Western European winterers towards northern latitudes.
