Pintail 1 and Pintail 2 (not very original names) were both fitted with GPS at the same time in April 2024, on the Chanteloup reserve (Vendée), which they frequent in winter. Either the capture brought them much closer together, or they had already known each other for a long time. Either way, they have been inseparable ever since.
Pintail 1 and Pintail 2, male and female, form a close-knit pair, at least on migration, judging by their GPS trajectories!
After a 2-day trip and a short stopover in Belgium, they are currently on their honeymoon in northern Germany, on the shores of the North Sea, in an area of polders and salt meadows, ideal for vegetarian anatidae.
Will they leave for more northerly landscapes or will they settle here to nest? There are a few breeding pintails in Germany, particularly in this region.
Many thanks to Emmanuel Joyeux (OFB) who captured these 2 ducks for MIGRATLANE!
